Fishponds serves as a local centre with many facilities, shops and services located within the district. Historically, it was a mining and quarrying area, with a significant amount of industry. On Fishpond's northern edge, there are two large parks: Eastville Park in the west, and the Oldbury Court Estate to the east which are linked by the River Frome Walkway which passes through the picturesque Snuff Mills.

Oldbury Court
Oldbury Court is an area within Fishponds that is well known for the Oldbury Court Estate (also known locally as The Vassalls after the last family who lived there). The play area was redeveloped in Spring 2010 with significant public investment to create a very popular play park and cafe to complement the fantastic surrounding parklands that border Snuff Mills and the Frome Valley. The estate also has a number of well signposted walks, that attract people of all ages.
