Neighbourhoods & Communities
Our commitment
BCHF places great emphasis on expanding its role to help improve the quality of life for residents who live in the neighborhoods where it has homes.
We believe that a successful neighbourhood is the product of a whole range of factors including good schools, job opportunities, places to play, safe streets, as well as the quality of housing. BCHF is committed to working closely with other agencies and the community to improve the quality of life for its residents.
Our community development work includes:
- Pioneering an award-winning Street Rep scheme to engage our residents in management of their neighbourhood and communal areas.
- Producing a regular tenant's newsletter to keep in touch with our residents. View the latest edition and back issues by clicking here.
- Working in partnership with the Upper Horfield Community Trust to create a Residents' Action Group fior the estate.
- Providing a range of festivals and events with local people to celebrate their neighbourhood, including advising residents about holding Street Parties.
- Working with partners to ensure effective local youth work including support the YR Youth Club in Horfield.
- Working with partners to develop innovative approaches to community cohesion including a project to pilot supplementary education for young people.

St George
St George is a district of Bristol that lies to the eastern edge of the city at the border with Kingswood.
Horfield & Lockleaze
Upper Horfield and Lockleaze are two adjoining neighbourhoods on the northern edge of Bristol. There is a great range of facilities for residents living in these areas and they are well served by public transport. The Horfield Leisure Centre and Horfield Common sits between the two neighbourhoods and Southmead Hospital is also nearby.
Southmead, Henbury & Brentry
These adjoining neighbourhoods lie on the north west of Bristol and share boundaries with South Gloucestershire and Avonmouth. Transport links into the city centre are excellent and there is easy access to the M5 and M4 motorways. Cribbs Causeway also adjoins this area to the north. The area has a well-equipped, modern leisure centre in Henbury, plus additional gym facilities at the Greenway Centre in Southmead. Blaise Castle with its play park and country walks is within easy reach.
Central Bristol & Montpelier
Our developments in Montpelier and the City Centre include new flats and refurbished buildings such as the White Building on Cheltenham Road.
Fishponds & Oldbury Court
The adjoining neighbourhoods of Fishponds and Oldbury Court, lie about three miles to the east of Bristol city centre along the River Frome valley. The area serves as a local centre with many facilities, shops and services located within the district. Historically, it was a mining and quarrying area, with a significant amount of industry.
