A group of local residents are currently gathering recipes from across Upper Horfield households to use in a community cookbook they hope to produce. The cookbook will showcase many of the dishes cooked in homes in the area and the group hopes to gather a wide and tasty collection of recipes.
If you would like to send us a recipe that is in use in your house, it can be a starter, snack, main course or sweet, please download the attached form by clicking here or call in to pick up a hard copy.
The group is also looking for sponsorship for the book and if you would like to sponsor a page or the whole book, please contact Scott on 0117 9319776 or email scott@bchf.co.uk
On Friday 15th March 2008, BCHF was pleased to be able to support this event which is a play developed by one of our local residents, Will Grealish. The play charts the life of Blues legend, Big Bill Broonzy, brought to life by Okon Ubanga-Jones. Funding for this event came from Lockleaze and Upper Horfield Neighbourhood Renewal and it took place at the Eden Grove Community Centre. We hope to be able to add a video here in due course so anyone who missed out can view it. In the meantime you can read the review by clicking here.
During March 2008 the people of Upper Horfield took part in a week of celebrations as part of its first Streets Ahead festival.
A range of events to promote cohesion and involve our wide range of different communities were held around the area including youth theatre, street dancing, story-telling, Big Bill Broonzy (see above) and a Festival & Feast.
The programme was supported with funding from a huge range of funders including Quartet, Neighbourhood Renewal, Avon and Somerset Police, Bristol City Council and the Black Development Agency.
The week of events peaked with our festival and feast held at Eden Grove Community Centre which included performances from The Ambling Band, Acustica, Ashley Rise Youth Morris, the Well Being Choir, World Roots Choir, Byron Jones (THe Welsh Wizard), ACE Percussion and DJ Jinxsta JX (Horfield based rappers).
Thanks to everyone who took part and all the wonderful food that local residents helped to prepare. Thanks also to the local groups who gave performances such as the Somali Dancers and all the volunteers who made the day a true celebration of the people of Upper Horfield.
