Housing benefit

You may be entitled to housing benefit towards the cost of your rent and service charges, even if you working. Please contact us if you would like to find out more or if you would like help in completing a housing benefit claim.

It is very important if you are claiming housing benefit, that you notify the council’s housing benefit section of any change in your circumstances which may make a difference to the amount of benefit that can be paid to you.  This includes a person joining your household, a child living with you reaching the age of 16 or going to college, a change in job or amount earned.  If you inform the council straight away, you are less likely to have to pay back large amounts of housing benefit and the resulting rent arrears.

We are able to verify the supporting documents for your benefit claim, send them to the council and give you a receipt. This means that you will not have to visit a Council office to present these; we also keep a copy of your receipt so can verify that you have given the information required.
